Counting Scales

When seeking solutions for increased efficiency, productivity, and profitability are inherent with every industrial business, an OHAUS Counting Scale is a great choice. If you are looking for ways to increase the efficiency, accuracy, and productivity of your industrial business; choosing a counting scale that matches your specific use needs is a must.

First, let’s define what a counting scale is; Counting Scales are used for counting by weighing multiple copies of a similar item – like bolts. They are designed with the unique function of maintaining precise inventory management, specifically in counting large volumes of items with small individual weights. When a group of identical items are placed on the platform of a parts counting scale, the display shows how many total pieces are on the platform optimally based on the weight measurement of 100 pieces on the scale.

A counting scale is used for checking the weight of objects against a pre-set limit, positioning them as ideal tools for maintaining inventory precision with minimal human effort; especially useful in factories, and assembly-line facilities. Consider the human effort to count small items like screws, or washers…. with a counting scale, this task requires seconds of time, producing highly accurate count results; rather than hours of human labor with near certainty of counting errors.

For high capacity counting of larger or heavier weight items, the OHAUS Defender® 5000 bench scale is the right choice.  Auto optimization software recalculates the average piece weight (APW) with each batch of parts to deliver precise counting results. Defender 5000 comes equipped with GLP/GMP output capability with time/date for result traceability. Each unit includes a micro-SD card for storage of up to 50,000 items with their APWs.

The Main Benefits of a Counting Scale:

High-Accuracy:

Auto optimization is used when the counting scale operator takes a sample weight of 10 parts to get an starting APW; then following with smaller batches of the same parts to reach a higher sample size of 50 or 100 parts without hand counting the rest.  With a counting scale, accuracy is increased with the greater number of pieces being measured, providing count accuracy without the need for counting small batches. OHAUS offers counting scales with readability as high as 0.04 g., and weight capacity ranges of 3 lbs. to 60 lbs. in the Ranger Count 4000, and 3000 models. OHAUS has continued to expand their industrial weighing portfolio with the Defender 5000 Series, and Ranger 7000 Series, both great for use as counting scales.Counting Scales

Streamlined Efficiency:

Remember when you were a child, sitting on the floor counting pennies…. it took time, and even more when you lost count, having to start over again. Consider a counting scale; the industrial solution for saving time with providing efficient counting accuracy.

Inventory Management:

Nearly every industry manager knows that maintaining accurate inventory counts, and stock management leads to increased profits. Counting Scales are designed for accuracy of item inventory counts. By providing accurate inventory data, better operational decisions can be made. For example, your scale can check the quantity of parts in a carton of 500 pieces in seconds without the potential of human error. Possibly you have a box of 10,000 parts that requires repackaging into 50-piece packages; this take would be accomplished with check counting without requiring user counting. The function is as simple as the user watching for the scale to tell them that the predetermined count has been reached.

What Factors Do I Consider in Choosing a Counting Scale?

1. Determine the average weight of the items being counted. The minimum APW for the scale you are considering should be equal or finer than this weight.
2. Estimate to the total weight you will place on the scale – parts and packaging – and choose a scale that can exceed that.  Usually we recommend using a scale with twice the capacity of the maximum weight you will place on the platform.
3. How large is the largest package you will place on the scale?  Choose a platform that can accommodate that.
4. Does the counting scale you have chosen have a keyboard for entering the average piece weight and package tare weights?  This is an important feature to allow for entering the per piece weight, and is a feature found in all OHAUS counting scales
5. What are your connectivity needs to systems, printers, barcode scanners and other equipment?  Do you need to use a remote base for bulk quantities?
